Outstanding post...I am in complete agreement with your position. Herd reduction is the issue, not method/weapon.

That said, having hunted 45+ consecutive years in the northern most part of the NEK, the Bluff Mountain range north and east of IP, we do not need a herd reduction, ie doe harvests, now or in the immediate future.
