2009 SUMMER STAFF POSITIONS- It’s never too late or early to think about next summer. The Parks & Recreation Dept. is looking to fill positions at Prouty Beach, Gardner Park and the City Dock. If you are handy, like to work with people, be outdoors and responsible please let us know at 334-6345. Our season runs from May-October and some hours outside of those months for prep and shutdown are available.



PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUP COORDINATOR WANTED-The Preschool Playgroup held at the Municipal Building will be held Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9-11am and we are looking for a coordinator who is reliable, courteous and practices good early childhood skills. Contact Julie Mulroy at 766-5331 if interested.



PROUTY BEACH AND CITY DOCK ARE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON- Thank you all for your patronage of these great facilities here in Newport. We look forward to next season for camping and boating.



HALLOWEEN IN NEWPORT- Thurs. Oct 30th. The Newport Parks & Recreation Dept will sponsor our Halloween activities here in Newport. Trick or Treat Bags are available for FREE at the Newport City Police Dept. beginning on Oct. 29th.Festivities starti with Trick or Treating with Merchants from 3:30-5:30pm, you can visit local Merchants for sweet treats for the kids and possible discount coupons for the grownups. Then at 5:15pm on the lawn of the Goodrich Library, you can bring your carved pumpkin for judging and display. Prizes will be awarded. The Halloween Parade will begin at 6pm at the Municipal Building and proceed down Main Street to Gardner Park, escorted by Newport City Police and Fire vehicles. Once at the Park there will be games, Story by the bonfire and possible other events being planned. Guaranteed FUN and celebration for all.



SPEED STACKING- Are you a speed stacker?  Well if you are or know someone who is and would like to be part of a demonstation or race to promote your skill, let us know and we can set up a race with others in the area. Call Newport Parks & Recreation at 334-6345.

         limited to the first 175 patrons present for each show.

 

                          Doors open thirty minutes prior to the showtime. 

                           NO advance seating or reservations accepted.



The Northeast Kingdom Palliative Care Initiative Invites You To Body and Spirit A Holistic Approach to Addressing Pain at the End of Life



FREE BIKE USE- We have 10 Mountain Bikes available through the Chronic Disease Control Grant which we hope to help lower the chronic disease increase within the NorthEast Kingdom. Get out and get active by using our bikes and helmets. Available at Prouty Beach Ticket Booth. Please drive with care and responsibility when using the bikes and report any defective equipment.



STICKS FOR KIDS- The Newport Parks & Recreation Dept. and US Golf Association have partnered to allow boys and girls of the area to get out and play golf. We have brand new sets of golf clubs available for use at the Parks & Rec Dept. If you are interested in borrowing these clubs, both right and left handed from ages 5-13 years old, give us a call and we’ll set you up for FREE. 334-6345.



ADULT COED FALL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- Begins Monday Sept 8th at the North Country Union High School gym. Contact Reg Shafe at the Rec.Dept 334-6345 for more info.

SENIORS

NEWPORT SENIOR CENTER

Located on the bottom floor of the Newport Municipal Building the Center is a place to meet new friends, socialize and exercise. Brenda Landry, Director of the Senior Center, puts on an excellent meal every Wednesday at noon for seniors 50+ and the cost is only $3.00 per person. The Strong Living Exercise Program is held on Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:30-10:30am and is free of charge.
